I’ve worked with hundreds of brands and explored thousands of Shopify stores. Using Chrome extensions like Store Leads and Koala Inspector, I’ve analyzed trends across businesses of all sizes.
Here are my top three tips to improve your Shopify store.
Tip 1: Save your shoppers time.
People don't have time to navigate 20 pages of a website. If you fail to show exactly what shoppers need right away, you're losing business.
In ecommerce, there’s no captive audience. Shoppers can leave at any moment. If they’re hitting the back button, that’s a red flag. Eliminate dead ends and keep the momentum moving forward, like a good book that keeps readers turning the page.
Tip 2: Be memorable.
A theme park ride creates a lasting memory in under 60 seconds. We tend to remember extraordinary moments and quickly forget the mundane, like the fact that we stood in line for an hour just to get there.
Ask yourself, what's the most memorable experience on my website? You don't need several, just one.
Tip 3: Surface hidden gems.
A 1,000 product store can easily have 40 pages. Most of your products will never get seen. The more you have, the more gets buried. Shoppers can only explore so much in one session.
If page one of your site still shows the same four products as last week, that’s a problem. Turn your static storefront into a living, dynamic experience by rotating results and keeping it fresh.
Next steps: Don't redesign your entire website, just apply the 80/20 rule
As a pattern, 80% of outcomes come from 20% of causes. So let's combine all three tips with one simple addition.
